Biography
Dr. Feiran Zhang is currently Research Assistant Professorat the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Dr. Zhang received her bachelor's degree in Art Design (with top 5% GPA) and a master's degree in Industrial Design Engineering (with top 5% GPA) from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2013 and 2016. During 2014 and 2015, she was awarded the Sino-Dutch Bilateral Exchange Scholarship to visit the University of Twente, the Netherlands. Between 2016 and 2022, she worked as a PhD researcher and later as a Postdoc at the Department of Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Before joining PolyU, she was an ERCIM fellow and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Computer Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Research interests
Dr. Feiran Zhang focuses on conducting design research to build a bridge between the user, technology, and innovative solution. In addition, she is interested in projects contributing to personal well-being (e.g., technology-enabled interventions for emotion awareness and regulation), improving learning experiences, and developing tools and methods for researching motivational and behavioural factors in learning contexts, design activities, healthcare, and everyday life.
“Emotions need to get us on the way, not get in the way. To facilitate this, I'm working on developing technologies that power self and social awareness of emotions so they can provide added value to our experiences.”
