Dr. Esfandiar Pakdel completed his PhD degree at Deakin University in Australia, focusing on the synthesis and application of visible-light active photocatalysts in smart textiles. Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Pakdel commenced working at the Institute for Frontier Materials at Deakin University, Australia, and subsequently received the prestigious Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in 2017. After his two-year fellowship period, he delved into leading both fundamental scientific research and industry-based projects at Deakin University (Institute for Frontier Materials, and Carbon Nexus) where he successfully completed projects in collaboration with international industry partners. Subsequently, Dr. Pakdel joined the Hong Kong Polytechnique University and JC STEM Lab of Sustainable Fibers and Textiles in 2023.
His multidisciplinary research activities span different areas including surface science, functional coatings, textile engineering, textile chemistry, nanotechnology and materials science. His current research focuses on developing and comprehending fundamental principles behind novel functionalities of smart/functional textiles, fibres and surfaces. His primary research areas include developing superhydrophobic coatings, antibacterial textiles, solar self-cleaning technology, fire-retardant materials, and advanced thermoregulation techniques. Additionally, some areas such as recycling textiles and fibrous materials, engineering fibres structures, refining fibres production process, and functional nonwovens are among his recent research endeavours.
Dr. Pakdel has published more than 50 research articles so far including book chapters, original research papers, and review articles, and delivered his work in numerous international research conferences.
