Personal profile

I hold a Ph.D. in imaging and interventional Radiology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where I specialized in the application and implication of imaging of human adipose tissue and abdominal ectopic fat using both MRI and ultrasound. I have published several research articles in reputable journals, with two ranked as highly influential citations by Semantic Scholar. This research experience has not only honed my technical skills but also developed my ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and work collaboratively with a team.

Besides, I hold a master’s degree in magnetic resonance technology (The University of Queensland, Australia), Post graduate Diploma in basic and advanced ultrasound (The Global open University, India), Certification in Ultrasound (Thomas Jefferson University, USA), BSc in Radiography (Queen Margaret University, UK) and a Diploma in Radiography (Evelyn Hone College, Zambia). I am a member of the Health Professions council of Zambia.

Above all, I am a qualified Radiographer with over 15 years of experience in general Radiography, CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. This practical experience has given me a deep understanding of the field, which I believe greatly enhances my teaching. I am able to provide students with real-world examples and insights, helping them understand the practical applications of their learning.

In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I have also supervised undergraduate research projects. This has allowed me to mentor students closely, guiding them through the research process, and helping them develop their own research skills.

In the cohort of first year radiography students, there were three students with special educational needs (SEN). Given their situation, I allowed them to have extra time after the tutorials to ask for clarification in areas they were lagging. I also gave them open access to me by either physical meeting or via email whenever they needed help with regards to the subject. Through this process, they all felt accepted, and their class participation improved and so were the results.

During my time in the industry, I was privileged to be part of the Research committee (Konkola Copper hospital) where we organized monthly CPD meetings for a period of over 10 years, successfully. Besides, I am a member of the research committee of the Radiological society of Zambia, and we conduct yearly symposiums. Also, I am an executive member of the Radiology without borders group, with over 300 members and we organize and present topics weekly (on zoom on Thursdays) in ultrasound. The group (WhatsApp group) also addresses daily cases that need second opinion from members from around 10 countries in Africa. This service helps to improve service delivery to the patients and enhance sonography skills to all for the benefit of the general population. Further, I am a member of the Scientific committee of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISSR) organizing the 2024 world congress that will take place in Hong Kong from 6-9 June 2024, we are tasked to formulate the conference program, invite speakers, and evaluate and select abstracts. Finally, I am a reviewer in many journals such as Obesity journal, European radiology, Paediatric obesity etc.

I have been privileged to study and work in 5 different countries {Zambia, Scotland, India, Australia, Hong Kong (3 continents)}. I have always worked well with people from different ethnicities and in many cases I am in the minority. Throughout my interaction with others, I have learnt to respect people for who they are, and even when I have a different opinion from them, I respectfully argue my point without being personal. This has enabled me to work well with everyone regardless of diversity. Besides, I am currently a serving Church elder. This position, which I have held over many years, has taught me to treat everyone equally without prejudice. Currently, as an academic advisor, I am working with 10 Chinese students who have been put under my care. This has helped me to further enhance my diversity principles.

In my current role as a Research assistant professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic university, I have gained substantial teaching experience. I have been privileged to be a tutor in Human anatomy to first year radiography students (n=120). I have also been a tutor in Imaging anatomy to second year radiography students (n=137). My whole work life has been in imaging with a bias to general radiography, Ultrasound and MRI. All my qualifications are in Imaging, making me a suitable candidate for the position.

In collaboration with others, we introduced a component of ‘virtual reality and immersive learning environment’ to advance gross anatomy teaching and consolidate student understanding of the subject. The team was awarded a grant to achieve this task. Besides, I was awarded digital literacy and GenAI grants to aid in teaching anatomy. Using these tools, students learning and understanding of the subject was enhanced as could be seen in their performance during the end of semester exams where the lowest scored a C+ (60%) in the radiography stream. I am adept at creating engaging lesson plans and delivering lectures that cater to diverse learning styles. My student evaluations have consistently highlighted my ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable manner.

As a member of the teaching team in Human anatomy, I have been privileged to help in reorganizing the course outline and participate in the formulation of new case scenarios to enhance student learning and assessment. Also, I participate in subject meetings that include results discussion/ moderation, content formulation etc.
