Biography

Dr. Chien has been an occupational therapist since graduating from National Taiwan University with a Bachelor’s degree in 2003. Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he earned a PhD from Monash University in 2010 and completed a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at The University of Queensland, Australia. Throughout these periods, he has extensively worked with children who have physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities, along with their families.

 

Dr. Chien holds strong research interests in parent coaching, specifically utilizing Occupational Performance Coaching, and in studying children’s participation in home and community activities. He has also developed several children’s hand skill-related measures and has validated the psychometric properties of many existing rehabilitation-related measures using modern test theory, such as the Rasch Measurement Model. Additionally, he has created and oversees two online databases: the Children’s Hand Skills Assessment Hub and the Hub of Occupational Therapy theory. These databases document various children’s fine motor assessments and occupational therapy theories, models, and frameworks for use in research and teaching.
