Biography

Dr. DAI, a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, received his Ph.D. degree from Medical School of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. With clinical training background in Orthopaedics and in-depth understanding on musculoskeletal disorders, Dr. DAI has devoted himself as a clinician-scientist, excelling in exploring the pathophysiology and regeneration of musculoskeletal diseases.

Dr. DAI and his teammates contributed to the discovery of osteopontin as a key regulator from macrophages in visceral adipose tissue involved in bone loss (Nature Communications, 2022, as first author). Continuity of function was found in osteopontin linking infrapatellar fat pad with osteoarthritis progress (Advanced Science, 2023, as first author). Dr. DAI and his collaborators designed and synthesized various tissue mimetic membranes that are imparted the potential for translation. Several findings of magnesium-membrane accelerating bone defect or bone-to-tendon regeneration published in prestigious journals, including ACS Nano (2022, as co-first author), ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces (2022, as co-first author), Advanced Healthcare Materials (2022), etc. Combination of magnesium chloride and simvastatin attenuated the obesity-induced bone loss (Bioactive Materials, 2021, as first author). Inorganic magnesium silicate promptly potentiated burn skin wound repair (Advanced Functional Materials, 2023, as co-first author).
