Personal profile

Research interests

Digitalization, social and economic networks, professions and organizations, East Asia, social research methodology

I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Applying a diversity of computational and mixed methods, my research examines the intersection of digitalization and social structure in professions, organizations, and social and economic networks, particularly in East Asia. I am actively accepting graduate students for supervision in these areas. Students interested are welcome to email me directly.

I obtained my PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto, where I was most recently a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellow. I am a research member of the Zambian division of the International Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation and Canada member of the Canada-International HIV and Rehabilitation Research Collaborative (CIHRRC).
I am also an elected fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.

I have previously held interdisciplinary research positions across the London School of Economics & Political Science in the United Kingdom, where I also received my M.Sc. in Social Research Methodology, University of Malaya in Malaysia, National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan, Harbin Institute of Technology in China, Seoul National University and Yonsei University in South Korea.

I have consulted for the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission, the Plan International-West Africa Regional Office, NGOs, start-ups, university administrations, and court cases (Canadian provincial-level).
