Organization profile

Since its inception in 1957. the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) has developed into a world renowned institution in fashion & textile education, research and technology transfer. Many of ITC’s more than thirty thousand alumni are backbones of the fashion and textile industry in Hong Kong, China and beyond.

Today, ITC is proud to have 50+ outstanding academic staff, more than 1000 talented undergraduate and postgraduate students, 17 dedicated technical and support staff, and roughly 180 project staff. ITC is a recognized world leader at the intersection of Fashion Design, Technology and Business. It is top ranked globally in Fashion & Textile Technology in terms of research performance and impact to academia and industry.

In the next few years, ITC will continue to spearhead the development of academic programmes to provide the best educational experience and growth opportunities for our students. While taking the full advantage of our global academic and industry networks for international student exchange and industry internship opportunities, we are transforming our academic programmes to incorporate smart wearable technology, digital fashion technology, fashion sustainability and advanced fibrous materials. This will ensure ITC graduates continue to be the preferred employees of our industry.

ITC will continue to excel in research and scholarship by taking the full advantage of technology and innovation initiatives in Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. In addition to the recently launched Research Center for Smart Wearable Technology, ITC is envisioned to establish PolyU-RCA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Design Lab at Hong Kong Science Park and Modern Textile Research Center at the PolyU new campus in GBA.

Community outreach & engagement is an integral part of ITC’s mission. I take pride of our colleagues’ phenomenal contribution to the transformation of Hong Kong fashion & textile industry from a traditional manufacturing and merchandising base to a design, creativity and branding hub. Our work has also reached to the people of disability and in need. Through our Apparel Care Center and service learning courses, ITC has brought hope to the underprivileged community while nurturing our students in leadership and community engagement.

Our mission in education, research and outreach cannot be fully realized without a strong partnership with various stakeholders including our students, industry, peer institutions, government and community. I therefore thank you for taking the time to browse ITC website and sincerely hope that you will visit us soon to see for yourself our world-class teaching and research facilities including the Digital Fashion Lab, Fashion Design Studio, The Fashion Gallery, Smart & Wearable Technology Center, Human Factor and Comfort Research Lab, Coloration and Color Communication Lab, Advanced Textiles Research Lab, Intimate Apparel Research Lab, Materials Synthesis Lab, as well as Garment & Textile Processing Workshops.
