Organisation profile
To advance knowledge and professional practices, to promote social justice and community betterment, and to prepare leaders in human services delivery are the key directions in the mission of the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS). In APSS, we have a wealth of expertise in multiple disciplines including social work, social policy and administration, psychology, sociology and philosophy. Our strategic research foci cover a wide spectrum of research directions related to migration and population mobility, family and life span development, applied psychology, social economy, social media and culture, disaster and risks reduction, applied philosophy and social work practices.
Our Department’s worldwide collaborative network continues to expand. Our collaborators include UC Berkeley, Washington University at St Louis, University of Queensland, Griffith University, Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University, Yunnan University, China Youth University for Political Science, Sichuan University, University of Chicago, and Rutgers University.
With over 20 academic and professional programs offered in diverse learning modes and contexts, we strive to promote education and professional training to align with the emerging needs of our society and students’ diverse learning interests. Research is integral to our Department and students are offered to engage in numerous hands-on research exposures. Many students would also enjoy the experience of academic exchanges with students, academic and professional experts in different parts of the world.
