Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT) is a multi-disciplinary department that embraces chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering and food science. In keeping with the mission of PolyU, ABCT focuses on providing high quality education and building our strength in basic and applied research to meet the requirements of a rapidly changing society.

With the efforts of our faculty, staff and students, ABCT has reached several milestones in the past decade. Our expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry and drug development has been recognized by the University Grants Committee through the “Area of Excellence” scheme in the area of molecular technology for drug discovery and synthesis. Our research facilities in the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park have been recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a State Key Lab Incubation Base in Chinese Medicine. Many of our projects and publications have won international and national awards.

ABCT is committed to equipping students with professional competency and to maintaining a strong partnership with business, industry and the professions. We aim to cultivate our graduates to meet the needs of the ever-changing world and contribute to the society. We have set up the Work-Integrated Education programme to provide on-the-job training to the students. We actively schedule exchange programmes and organize field visits to prepare our students with international insights. We update our programmes regularly to follow the pace of the social change. We provide consultancy to offer technical solutions to the industry.
