In an era of rapid developments in digital technology and generative AI, we need to combine the latest immersive methods and techniques with current neurocomputational theories to study embodied language learning. I highlight how human learners, as compared with AI models, effectively integrate multimodal information in social interactive contexts, and how such interactive learning processes enable us to understand the differences between child and adult language learning. This approach also relies on collecting and analyzing real-time multimodal data towards the study of both language and non-language domains. Practically, the approach also allows us to study real-time processes of learning so that we can develop evidence-based, personalized, pedagogical designs that tailor to individual learners’ needs and learning profiles.
