RGC Public Lecture‘while without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed’ (Wilkins, 1972).
A large vocabulary is essential to mastering English as a foreign language. This talk presents the latest research and resources that can help intermediate and advanced English learners achieve this goal. It addresses the following questions:
1. How many words do learners need to master?
2. Which strategies are effective for boosting learners' vocabulary?
3. Where can learners find interesting and free vocabulary learning resources?
It also highlights the importance of learning English idiomatic expressions.
